Abstract

Datafromthreedouble-blindtrialsoflinoleicacidinthetreatmentofmultiplesclerosis(MS)werereanalyzedtoexaminewhetherinconsistencyintheresultswasduetoarelationshipbetweenpatientcharacteristicsandtreatmentresponse.Thecombineddataconsistedofneurologicassessmentsover21/2-yeartrialsfor87treatedpatientsand85controlpatients.Treatedpatientswithminimalornodisabilityatentryhadasmallerincreaseindisabilitythandidcontrols(plessthan0.05).Inaddition,treatmentreducedtheseverityanddurationofrelapsesatalllevelsofdisabilityanddurationofillnessatentrytothetrials.
