A brief general description of the coastline of the Gold Coast is followed by a short account of the physical conditions and essential tidal information. The rocky shores are divided according to the amount of wave action into (a) exposed, (b) moderately exposed, (c) moderately sheltered, and (d) sheltered, and the type of zonation characteristic of each is described. Zonation of plant and animal life on rocky shores on the Gold Coast is seen to fit into the scheme put forward by T. A. and A. Stephenson which they believe will have universal applicability as a method of describing rocky shore zonation.
